WorldCon starts today in Kansas City! If you are coming, please do say hi! Here's where I'll be:

Old Time Radio and New Tales in the Age of Podcasts
Thursday 17:00 - 18:00, 2210 (Kansas City Convention Center)

The classic era of radio saw science fiction shows X Minus One, Stroke of Fate, Dimension X, and others. Podcasts often borrow classic storytelling since many tales from the era of Weird Fiction are out of copyright. But newer stories can also lend themselves extremely well to podcast readings. The panel discusses old and new ways of using podcasting to tell classic stories well, and bring new stories to life.

Jim Freund, David Truesdale, Alec Nevala-Lee, Tamora Pierce, Julia Rios (M)

Stroll with the Stars: Farm to Table

We will be a group of fans, authors, artists and editors having a very leisurely walk and good conversation. The route is a mile and suitable for all abilities and as the pace will be pleasant it is expected to take a little less than an hour.

Analyzing a Movie: Batman vs. Superman
Saturday 14:00 - 15:00, 3501D (Kansas City Convention Center)

A Siskel/Ebert, but detailed, look at Batman vs. Superman: what worked and where the film failed to live up to its potential. What could the filmmakers have done to rescue it? What was the cause of its downfall? Did it really fail as badly as some say? And does knowledge/or lack of knowledge about the comics influence the success of the film? This session is suitable for those who wish to learn more about film criticism from a fair and honest perspective, but also for those who just love giving "arm chair quarterback" reviews.

Julia Rios, Matt Jacobson (M), Kurt Busiek

Cats!!!
Sunday 11:00 - 12:00, 2206 (Kansas City Convention Center)

It's no secret that cats (not dinosaurs, space cowboys, pirates or even aliens) are taking over the world. In order to avert this pending feline conquest, our panelists hatch some clever plots that just may save us from our feline overlords. And, while we're at it, we'll also discuss how our furry friends are also used for the good of all in SF/F writing. Or is it really just a subterfuge? Meow!

MR Eric Kaplan, Naomi Kritzer, Esther Friesner (M), Julia Rios, Tamora Pierce, Tamara Jones

The State of Feminist Fantasy
Sunday 13:00 - 14:00, 2205 (Kansas City Convention Center)

On The Coode Street Podcast (#256), Suzy McKee Charnas and Pamela Sargent noted that while feminist fantasy exists, there isn't an agreed upon canon, as there is for SF, nor is there an equivalent community of feminist writers and readers. Panellists discuss this statement, whether there is a difference viewing feminism through a fantasy lens, and whether there are fantasy feminist equivalents to Russ, Tiptree, and Butler. What are some good examples of feminist fantasy?

Dr. Janice M Bogstad, Tessa Gratton, Julia Rios, Ann Leckie

Women of Wonder at 21
Sunday 14:00 - 15:00, 3501B (Kansas City Convention Center)

In 1995, Pamela Sargent published the two Women of Wonder anthologies (Classic Years and Contemporary Years). What stories published in the past twenty years would belong in an hypothetical third volume of this series?

Ms Rachel Swirsky, Amanda Downum (M), Julia Rios, Eleanor Arnason, Pat Murphy
